Bulk Gas Operations Engineer

MicronSyracuse, NY
Onsite

About The Position

Lead the build, construction, commissioning, and turnover of bulk gas, specialty gas, and ultra-low temperature gas delivery systems supporting high-tech semiconductor manufacturing facilities in New York (Clay, NY). Serve as the technical owner for third-party design oversight, ensuring systems meet program specifications, performance requirements, and regulatory/industry standards. Partner with internal collaborators, external service providers, suppliers, and AE/build firms to ensure safe, compliant, and constructible gas system delivery from concept through startup. Transition post-commissioning into operations engineering responsibilities focused on sustaining reliability, safety, and performance of installed gas systems. This is a 100% on-site role; relocation to the project location is required. Occasional travel may be required to vendor sites and partner offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering rigor
  • Proven ability in gas systems engineering (specialty gas, bulk gas, and/or cryogenic systems), including design review and field execution support
  • Proven ability to review engineering work (e.g., P&IDs, specifications, 3D models) and ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g., SEMI, ASME, CGA)
  • Proven capability to coordinate across external design firms, contractors, vendors, and internal team members using strong communication and project execution skills
  • Experience driving safety, quality, and risk management for engineered systems in regulated or high-reliability environments

Nice To Haves

  • Experience overseeing third-party gas system designs for semiconductor, pharmaceutical, data center, or similarly high-purity/critically important facilities
  • Hands-on experience supporting commissioning/startup of bulk/specialty/cryogenic gas systems and equipment validation activities
  • Familiarity with control/monitoring systems and automation interfaces (e.g., PLC, SCADA) supporting gas system operations
  • Proficiency using BIM workflows for coordination and turnover documentation (e.g., Revit, Navisworks)
  • Professional certification/licensure (e.g., PE) or relevant gas systems-focused credentials

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate third-party firms building specialty gas systems, bulk gas plants, and ultra-low temperature gas infrastructure (e.g., nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, LN2, oxygen)
  • Review and validate engineering deliverables (e.g., P&IDs, equipment specifications, system layouts) for compliance with project requirements and applicable codes/standards (e.g., SEMI, ASME)
  • Perform technical evaluations to confirm design performance and safety (e.g., flow, pressure, purity, materials compatibility, hazardous gas controls)
  • Drive quality, constructability, and risk reviews; identify gaps and ensure corrective actions are implemented through design partners
  • Support construction execution by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittments, and participating in field walks, inspections, and coordination meetings
  • Oversee commissioning readiness and startup activities by coordinating vendor validation, system testing, and performance verification against requirements
  • Ensure safety and compliance for hazardous/cryogenic gas systems aligned to applicable guidelines and local requirements (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, CGA)
  • Use BIM/coordination tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD) to confirm design integration, resolve clashes, and support documentation turnover

Benefits

  • Choice of medical, dental and vision plans
  • Benefit programs that help protect your income if you are unable to work due to illness or injury
  • Paid family leave
  • Robust paid time-off program
  • Paid holidays
