As a Building Trade/Construction Occupation Trades Teacher for the Department of Corrections, you will share hands-on knowledge that can help others build brighter futures. This position delivers vocational instruction in masonry and related construction trades to inmate students at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Dallas. The role supports learning through hands-on teaching, evaluation, and classroom leadership.

Requirements

  • Education equivalent to high school graduation and two years wage earning experience beyond the completed apprenticeship period in Masonry
  • OR Education equivalent to high school graduation and three years of wage earning experience in Masonry (if no approved apprenticeship period)
  • Possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate I or II for Masonry
  • OR Possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Intern Certificate for Masonry
  • OR Eligibility for a Pennsylvania Department of Education Emergency Certificate for Masonry
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA
  • Meet the PA residency requirement
  • Able to perform essential job functions
  • Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements

Responsibilities

  • Adapt curriculum materials to meet student needs based on screening and placement results
  • Provide instruction across building and construction trade subjects with a focus on masonry skills
  • Develop and administer quizzes, tests, and evaluations to measure progress
  • Update and maintain education, attendance, inventory, and payroll records according to procedures
  • Monitor behavior, enforce rules, and take corrective action to maintain a safe learning space
