About The Position

The Building Technician V (HVAC/R) maintains and repairs all types of large, analog and digitally controlled HVAC/R systems including, but not limited to centrifugal and reciprocating chilled water systems, air cooled chillers, heat pumps and all ancillary equipment, including pumps and variable Speed Drives (VFD's). This role is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the safe condition and operation of all HVAC/R systems in City of Pasadena facilities. The technician will diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of heating and air conditioning systems, including chillers, boilers, large split, rooftop systems and refrigeration equipment throughout the City. Responsibilities include repairing, replacing, or calibrating controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring, as well as wiring and connecting motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity sensors according to wiring schematics. The position requires maintaining refrigerant dispensing records to meet federal EPA requirements and adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for all HVAC equipment, including filters, belts, and coil cleaning. The technician will receive and complete work orders efficiently, maintain accurate records of materials and labor, and ensure job sites are clean upon completion. This role also involves detecting needed repairs on equipment, responding to emergency calls, and performing general cleaning and maintenance tasks for vehicles, equipment, and tools. All duties must be performed in accordance with City policies and procedures, and employees must maintain required licenses and certifications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years' experience in HVAC/R field.
  • EPA certification required.
  • Texas driver's license required.
  • Texas air conditioning and refrigeration contractor license or technician certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair all types of large, analog and digitally controlled HVAC/R systems, including centrifugal and reciprocating chilled water systems, air cooled chillers, heat pumps, pumps, and variable speed drives (VFDs).
  • Ensure the safe condition and operation of all HVAC/R systems in City of Pasadena facilities.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in heating and air conditioning systems, including chillers, boilers, large split systems, rooftop systems, and refrigeration equipment.
  • Repair, replace, or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.
  • Wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity sensors according to wiring schematics.
  • Maintain refrigerant dispensing records to meet federal EPA requirements.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for all HVAC equipment, including filters, belts, and coil cleaning.
  • Receive and complete work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate records on materials and labor used.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion to ensure areas are clean.
  • Detect needed repairs on equipment following inspection procedures.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.
  • Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition.
  • Perform all duties and work assignments in accordance with City policies and procedures.
  • Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy.
  • Maintain all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements without interruption.
  • Perform other duties as assigned outside of HVAC/R.
