The Building Technician V (HVAC/R) maintains and repairs all types of large, analog and digitally controlled HVAC/R systems including, but not limited to centrifugal and reciprocating chilled water systems, air cooled chillers, heat pumps and all ancillary equipment, including pumps and variable Speed Drives (VFD's). This role is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the safe condition and operation of all HVAC/R systems in City of Pasadena facilities. The technician will diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of heating and air conditioning systems, including chillers, boilers, large split, rooftop systems and refrigeration equipment throughout the City. They will also repair, replace or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring, and wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls and humidity sensors according to wiring schematics. Maintaining refrigerant dispensing records to meet federal EPA requirements and adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for all HVAC equipment are key aspects of this position. The role involves receiving and completing work orders efficiently, maintaining accurate records of materials and labor, and ensuring job sites are clean upon completion. The technician will detect needed repairs on equipment following inspection procedures and respond to emergency calls as needed. Additional duties include performing general cleaning and maintenance tasks for vehicles, equipment, and tools, and adhering to all City policies and procedures, including work schedules and timekeeping. The employee must maintain all necessary licenses, certifications, and clearances without interruption. Other duties outside of HVAC/R may be assigned.
