About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing all types of large, analog and digitally controlled HVAC/R systems, including centrifugal and reciprocating chilled water systems, air cooled chillers, heat pumps, and all ancillary equipment such as pumps and Variable Speed Drives (VFDs). The role ensures the safe condition and operation of all HVAC/R systems in City of Pasadena facilities. Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in various heating and air conditioning systems, repairing, replacing, or calibrating controls, wiring and connecting motors, maintaining refrigerant dispensing records, and adhering to preventative maintenance schedules. The technician will receive and complete work orders efficiently, maintain accurate records of materials and labor, and ensure job sites are clean upon completion. The role also involves detecting needed repairs, responding to emergency calls, performing general maintenance on equipment and vehicles, and adhering to all City policies and procedures, including attendance and timekeeping. The technician must maintain all necessary licenses and certifications without interruption. Other duties outside of HVAC/R may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five (5) years' experience in HVAC/R field.
  • EPA certification required.
  • Texas driver's license required.
  • Texas air conditioning and refrigeration contractor license or technician certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair all types of large, analog and digitally controlled HVAC/R systems including, but not limited to centrifugal and reciprocating chilled water systems, air cooled chillers, heat pumps and all ancillary equipment, including pumps and variable Speed Drives (VFD's).
  • Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC/R systems in City of Pasadena facilities.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in various types of heating and air conditioning systems, including chillers, boilers, large split, rooftop systems and refrigeration equipment throughout the City.
  • Repair, replace or calibrate controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring.
  • Wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls and humidity sensors according to wiring schematics.
  • Maintain refrigerant dispensing recording to meet federal EPA requirements.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for all HVAC equipment including filters, belts and coil cleaning.
  • Receive and complete work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate records on materials and labor used.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion to ensure areas are clean.
  • Detect needed repairs on equipment following inspections procedures.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.
  • Perform general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in clean operable condition.
  • Perform all duties and work assignments in accordance with City policies and procedures.
  • Work the assigned schedule and comply with City timekeeping and attendance policy.
  • Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned out of HVAC/R.
