About The Position

The Syracuse City School District is seeking a dedicated Building Systems Analyst to join their Facilities Department. This role involves reviewing, recommending, adopting, and implementing programs to improve the efficient utilization of building systems. The analyst will research energy/cost savings applications, collaborate with private sector and public utility personnel, and provide reports on project progress and outcomes. This position requires independent judgment and is directed towards enhancing building system efficiency and energy conservation.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Technology, Computer Science or Programming and two (2) years of professional level work experience in the fields of energy conservation, computer programming/graphics or engineering applications.
  • Six (6) years of paraprofessional/professional work experience, two (2) years of which must have involved professional level work experience in the field of energy conservation, computer programming/graphic or engineering application.
  • A combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
  • Good knowledge of the principles and practices of building management and energy conservation in buildings.
  • Good knowledge of instrumentation controls, electrical, heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems.
  • Good knowledge of the capabilities and problems associated with micro/mini computers, PC's and keyboard entry equipment.
  • Ability to apply energy conservation methods to enhance the efficiency of systems that provide environmental conditioning in buildings.
  • Ability to organize one's work in a logical manner and according to established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with private sector firms, public officials, governmental employees and the general public.
  • Must meet the minimum qualifications on the Onondaga County Civil Service job description for this title.
  • Must pass the exam for this title when offered and be reachable on the resulting eligibility list to be retained.
  • Must pass a fingerprint-based background check.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes, implements, and controls daily operational and building efficiency procedures either directly related to energy consumption or necessary to utilize efficiently custodial and maintenance staff, in a coordinated, comprehensive, systems program.
  • Researches, organizes and implements long and short range energy programs to curtail costs, by incorporating new and managing an existing energy management computer system.
  • Assists in educating custodial, building maintenance and other staff to activate in-house energy conservation objectives.
  • Assists data processing staff by developing and documenting energy conservation and building systems data.
  • Provide support services to the users of building management systems applications on both main frame and microcomputers, assisting in the setup of micro hardware and software packages.
