About The Position

SmartStart Education seeks a daily substitute teacher to work with elementary students in grades K–5 at a school in East Hartford. The teacher will cover multiple class periods per day and work with each class several times throughout the week. The position is expected to run from November 2, 2026, through April 19, 2027. The schedule is 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Applicants are encouraged to schedule interviews promptly so they have time to complete onboarding; the position may become unavailable otherwise. The hourly pay range is $26.65 to $29.61.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in any field; anticipated graduation does not meet this requirement.
• At least one year of teaching or tutoring experience in a school or another educational setting.
• Comprehensive understanding of challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, including racial, socioeconomic, and cultural disparities.
• Mastery of K–5 concepts and skills.
• Genuine passion and commitment to fostering student success.
• Exemplary punctuality and adherence to schedules.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with students, colleagues, and interested parties.
• Ability to commute to the designated location.
• Ability to navigate a school environment, including walking through hallways, classrooms, and stairways throughout the workday.
