About The Position

Building Science & Infrastructure Technicians are the frontline workers for ECS projects. A Technician observes and begins to perform routine field tests and observations on a per project basis as assigned by others. Work is task based and will be performed in the field. Technicians present a positive customer service attitude and understanding of ECS Core Values. Responsibilities include testing and observations for new construction or the built environment, specialized testing, building enclosure consulting, forensic investigation, and other building science & infrastructure related services. The role involves performing field and laboratory testing and observations, with progressive learning about testing and observations of various systems while working both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Daily communication is required with other ECS technicians, project managers, principals, clients and other site representatives. Technicians will attend project meetings with ECS senior staff and/or clients as requested. A progressive understanding of systems and structures and the way we observe, test and investigate them is expected, along with documenting test results and observations in reports appropriately. The role includes learning to calibrate and use field equipment, assisting with maintenance and organization of field equipment, and notifying supervisors of broken or missing equipment. Incidental duties may include office clerical tasks, report production assistance and other office or lab related tasks. This position requires extended travel to support projects throughout West Texas. Other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • 0 years of related experience.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability and willingness to learn basic materials and building science concepts, laboratory testing methods, and applicable standards.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds a number of times each day, stand for extended periods, walk on uneven ground through various terrains, perform repetitive tasks, and have the ability to perform work at heights.
  • Ability to complete daily field reports detailing site activities and observations with directions and training provided.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to perform routine calculations.
  • Proficiency with standard electronic devices (computers, tablets) and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Possesses acceptable basic technical writing skills with regard to basic conventions of spelling, grammar, and professional content. Collaborates with more senior staff to produce reports. Works to improve writing skills, as necessary under the direction of supervisors and Principal reviewers.
  • Participate in interactions with clients, peers and supervisors.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Learning responsibilities of the job with progress toward being detail-oriented.
  • Learning to read and interpret drawings, specifications, checklists and standards and follow directions and instructions.
  • Must have the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and follow all local and state laws, road/driving regulations, and company policies.

  • Associate or technology degree in civil engineering or architectural engineering preferred.
