About The Position

Operations Specialist I encompasses professional and analytical work requiring regular use of independent judgment in the practical application of management principles and techniques to improve operational activities in accordance with agency laws and policies. This role involves conducting complex studies and analyses of operations, programs, organizations, and procedures, and preparing reports and recommendations for organizational improvement. The position also requires liaising with internal and external parties, collecting and organizing data, and consulting with management on policies and operational needs. Additionally, the Operations Specialist I may serve as a work lead for less-experienced incumbents.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of GED Certificate.
  • Five years' experience in overseeing building construction and maintenance work including experience in reviewing contract drawings and plans, specifications and preparing cost estimates.
  • Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and be eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit.
  • Must upload a copy of your valid driver’s license with the application at the time of applying.
  • Knowledge of building renovation and maintenance methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of inspection methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret contract drawings, plans and specifications.
  • Ability to prepare cost estimates.
  • Ability to evaluate request for renovation or maintenance work.
  • Ability deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to maintain records and write reports.
  • Must complete a 6-MONTH mandatory probation.
  • Must complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, and must be successfully completed.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts complex studies and analyses of operations, programs, organizations, and procedures.
  • Prepares complex final reports, recommendations, and other informational resources for the improvement of an organizational element or its program.
  • Liaises with the program and other internal or external persons to maintain communication channels.
  • Collects, compiles, and organizes complex data pertinent to various ongoing studies.
  • Conducts complex studies and analyses of work processes and systems.
  • Consults with supervisor and/or management on policies, trends, and interpretation of operational needs.
  • Serves, as requested, as a work lead for less-experienced incumbents in this classification series.
