About The Position

The City of Haltom City is seeking a full-time Building Official to lead, influence, and protect a growing community. This role is for a seasoned code expert who thrives on leadership, problem-solving, and shaping safe, compliant development. The Building Official will guide their team, review plans, and ensure every project meets rigorous safety and compliance standards. This includes mentoring staff, interpreting codes, reviewing construction plans, and meeting with architects and contractors to resolve complex challenges. Fieldwork involves conducting inspections to ensure work aligns with regulations and protecting the public from unsafe structures. Responsibilities also include enforcing ordinances and presenting at board meetings, with expertise driving decisions that shape the city's growth and safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Valid Texas driver's license
  • Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Energy, and Fire Inspector certifications
  • Strong communication, supervisory, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • International Code Council (ICC) Certified Building Official certification
