Building Materials Yard & Delivery Associate
About The Position
Federated Co-ops, Inc. is looking for a Building Materials Yard & Delivery Associate to join our Pine City Building Center & Farm Supply team. This role is responsible for managing the yard, inventory, customer orders, and deliveries. It is a hands-on position that involves working outdoors, interacting with customers, and operating equipment. Key duties include receiving and maintaining inventory, pulling and loading customer orders, building loads for delivery, assisting customers, and ensuring accurate and safe order fulfillment. The position may also support other business areas during the slow season, such as propane delivery or sales support.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to accurately count, measure & calculate lumber and other products.
- Current CDL or ability to obtain a CDL and drive company vehicle.
- Currently possess or able to successfully obtain forklift training & certification.
- Safely operate Boom Truck - previous experience preferred.
- If supporting propane during the slow season, must be able to maintain CDL license with Hazmat, Tanker and Air Brakes Endorsement.
Nice To Haves
- 1-3 years of experience in retail, payment processing, or equivalent.
- Lumber, home repair and/or construction knowledge.
- 1-3 years of experience using Word and Excel software, internet.
- Previous propane handling or delivery experience.
Responsibilities
- Completes daily operations task lists for yard and office.
- Manage yard operations while supporting front counter and sales team.
- Receiving Inventory – Counts and sorts incoming articles to verify receipt of items on requisition of invoices.
- Examine new stock to verify conformance to specifications.
- Organizes and stores articles in bins, on floor, or on shelves, according to identifying information such as style, size, or type of material.
- Helps locate and load customer orders and cuts stock to size to fill order.
- Prepares periodic, special, or perpetual inventory of stock.
- Requisitions articles to fill incoming orders and fills orders or issues supplies from stock.
- Marks identifying codes, figures, or letters on articles and adjusts or repairs articles carried in stock.
- Determines methods of storage, identification, and stock location, considering temperature, humidity, height and weight limits, turnover, floor loading capacities, and required space.
- Moves or transports material or supplies to other areas and departments using a commercial motor vehicle/boom truck, forklift, hand lift and manually.
- Operates company vehicles to deliver materials to customers in a safe manner adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Maintains inventory and other stock records.
- Supports propane delivery during the slow season.
- Supports sales and marketing activities during the slow season, including learning quote and ordering systems for bid development.
