About The Position

Under the general supervision and direction of the USU Operations Manager, the Building Manager is responsible for the overall operations of the University Student Union, and/or designated operating facilities, in the absence of building management full-time staff. The Building Manager assists with the design, production and preparation of audio-visual materials using photographic, audio, and video equipment for scheduled events. The Building Manager will assist in various duties as assigned, both technical and professional in a part-time capacity, to gain practical experience in the University Student Union field.

Requirements

  • Must have at least one year of work-related experience.
  • Must be a current and active CSULB student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.
  • Requires strong initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to quickly learn and apply CSULB regulations, ASI policies, procedures, and technical concepts with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to assess situations, make independent decisions, communicate effectively in English, and perform complex tasks accurately.
  • Ability to interpret manuals, instructions, and diagrams.
  • Must be patient, trustworthy, customer service-oriented, adaptable, and responsive to student needs, with the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as determined by ASI.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

  • Experience in other college unions is desirable.
  • audiovisual equipment maintenance and troubleshooting experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces and ensures compliance with established ASI and campus policies and procedures. Oversees the University Student Union, and/or designated operating facilities, in the absence of building management full-time staff. Monitors all assigned events across campus, after-hour study center and patrols outside the building, reporting any activities that may affect guests and events occurring within and outside the building.
  • Retrieves building keys for the purpose of gaining access to required areas of the facility.
  • Reviews daily setup worksheets to ensure that all events are set-up according to plan.
  • Communicates with facility staff via cell phone and two-way radio throughout shift.
  • Opens meeting rooms for scheduled events and secures rooms when not in use.
  • Monitors the building during hours of operations, secures office and departmental areas, and unlocks and locks designated meeting rooms for reservations. Will open and secure the University Student Union, and/or designated operating facilities, as required for daily operations.
  • Makes frequent rounds of the facility and communicates with facilities staff regarding issues relating to restrooms, faucets, urinals, non-functioning lighting, and takes appropriate action to address situations needing immediate attention.
  • Conducts traffic counts of assigned common areas of the building on an hourly basis throughout shift and processes appropriate paperwork.
  • Resets and cleans tables and chairs in all lounge and eating areas according to corresponding diagrams.
  • Provides support for event setup and teardown and operates ASI carts to transport equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Is familiar with room set-ups and assists facilities staff when necessary.
  • Regularly checks to see that all events are functioning normally, i.e., proper room setup, lighting, temperature, audio-visual equipment, etc.
  • Greets and assists the Event Coordinators and monitors events as necessary.
  • Prepares clear and concise electronic shift reports regarding events, issues with staff, guests or services, conditions of the building, building infrastructure, and furnishings. Reports will include actions taken to address issues along with additional information so building management can start problem solving as soon as possible.
  • Offers information about the campus and ASI to guests.
  • Set-up and monitor audio-visual equipment, including the interconnection of microphones, mixers, amplifiers, and speakers to produce a functional sound system.
  • Set-up and operate Epson projectors and monitors.
  • Set-up of Lighting systems, i.e. up lighting,
  • Assists with the maintenance of audio-visual equipment
  • Assists with maintaining stock levels of supplies.
  • Assists with audiovisual aspects of audiovisual production.
  • Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job.
