About The Position

The Building Maintenance Worker assists the Building Maintenance team to ensure that Nation Buildings and Systems are maintained and repaired to industry best practices and standards. The Building Maintenance Worker supports a wide range of tasks to upkeep Nation assets, including but not limited to those related to general maintenance, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 (or equivalent).
  • 2-3 years’ work experience in plumbing, electrical systems, and/or building maintenance.
  • Experience using hand and electrical tools.
  • Acceptable Police Information Check prior to employment.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and acceptable Driving Record.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, drawings, and blueprints.
  • Proficient using hand and electrical tools.
  • Mechanically inclined with strong technical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.
  • Excellent work ethic, discipline and self-motivation.
  • Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Safety-minded.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality and respectful service delivery within a small community.
  • Strong cultural sensitivity with a deep respect for Tla’amin Nation culture, traditions, and protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Trade certificate or 3-4 years apprenticeship is an asset.
  • Prior working experience with Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems is an asset.
  • Prior experience working with Tla’amin Nation or other Indigenous communities or governments is an asset.
  • Willingness to pursue additional accreditations relevant to building maintenance.
  • Specific working knowledge of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Tla’amin policies, standards, practices, and procedures as directed by the Building Maintenance Coordinator. Maintains confidentiality as required pertaining to members, clients, employees, and general matters of the Nation.
  • Monitors and carries out preventative maintenance procedures for building, equipment, and grounds including but not limited to: Landscaping, pressure-washing, window, and gutter cleaning.
  • HVAC system troubleshooting, filter replacements, cleaning.
  • Repairing dry wall, painting.
  • Replacing damaged or expired fixtures or building components.
  • Responds to maintenance requests and handles necessary repairs in the building.
  • Supports special event setups.
  • Keeps accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Makes recommendations for major repairs and purchases to the Building Maintenance Coordinator.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
