About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a variety of jobs and ensures the County facilities remain safe, functional and clean by performing routine upkeep, troubleshooting and fixing plumbing, carpentry and lighting. This position is an essential position and will be require to work during weather events to clear the County places. Requires that the incumbent be on call rotation.

Requirements

  • High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. carpentry, building maintenance repairs, maintenance equipment operation, etc., plus 2 years related experience and/or training, and 1 to 6 months related management experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain a Class "D" driver's license during employment.
  • Intermediate: Word Processing/Typing, ability to learn software required for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Good knowledge of standard carpentry and electrical practices and techniques.
  • Some knowledge of the methods and techniques for application of protective coatings to furniture and cabinets.
  • Some knowledge of roofing methods and materials.
  • Skill in the operation of hand and power carpentry tools.
  • Ability to accurately estimate time and material requirements for assigned projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret simple blueprints and sketches.
  • Ability to complete work orders on projects completed.
  • Ability to perform manual and skilled labor involving bending, lifting and carrying materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with County employees requesting repair/remodeling projects.

Responsibilities

  • Performs carpentry work required to remodel, construct, and add minor additions to buildings, and to repair buildings and furniture.
  • Operates hand and power tools to cut, shape, and install various materials and performs finish carpentry work, such as installing trim molding, building shelves, and bookcases.
  • Repairs or replaces building components such as doors, door frames and locks.
  • Installs insulation hangs sheet rock or paneling, mud or float walls and ceilings.
  • Stains, varnishes, and paints furniture and cabinets.
  • Performs electrical work required to replace ballasts, bulbs and tubes.
  • Replace switches, outlets, and other electrical repairs.
  • Performs plumbing including replacing water heaters, toilets, sinks, sprinkler systems, runs water lines, etc.
  • Repairs roof by replacing or installing roofing materials.
  • Operates a light truck to transport tools, materials, and equipment to various work sites.
  • Completes maintenance on County's vehicles including oil changes, belts, bulbs, etc.
  • Changes all HVAC filters in all County buildings, cleans clogged drains, and minor repairs on HVAC units.
  • Moves and transports heavy items such as filing cabinets, tables, desks, and other office furniture.
  • Assembles office furniture and other related items.
  • Maintains all county sidewalks and walkways and ensures all ice and snow is cleared during the winter months.
  • The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner as required in a safety sensitive position.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
