About The Position

Join our Public Works team! The City of Kentwood is seeking a Building Maintenance Technician I to help maintain and repair City-owned buildings and facilities. In this role, you’ll perform a variety of hands-on maintenance tasks across multiple trades, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building systems. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems, and contributing to the upkeep of essential community facilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of skilled trades experience in installation, maintenance, or repair work (or equivalent combination of training and experience)
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building maintenance
  • Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, drawings, and blueprints
  • Michigan CDL Class A with Tanker (“N”) endorsement (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain City buildings, including roofs, ceilings, floors, drywall, windows, doors, and lighting
  • Perform painting, repairs, and general facility upkeep
  • Inspect, operate, maintain, and repair HVAC systems
  • Complete plumbing and electrical maintenance and repairs
  • Maintain office furniture, fixtures, and equipment
  • Perform maintenance on park facilities such as restrooms, pavilions, and athletic equipment
  • Assist with pest control and graffiti removal
  • Support custodial operations and contractor oversight
  • Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and small inventory of supplies
  • Prepare reports and maintain records of work performed
  • Provide basic assistance and information to the public
  • Collaborate with team members and assist other Public Works divisions as needed
