About The Position

This journeyman-level maintenance position is responsible for performing corrective maintenance and repairs on buildings and facilities across the Medical University of South Carolina during both peak and non-peak hours. Duties include using hand and power tools to complete a wide range of repairs, from minor fixes to extensive maintenance, within assigned zones. Work is performed according to established trade practices and under the direction of the Hospital Help Desk, FSC, Maintenance Manager, or Supervisor, with assignments subject to inspection and review. Limited supervision may be provided for new or complex tasks. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and is required to respond during disaster situations.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or Equivalent
  • 3 years of work experience
  • Ability to work outside, in all weather conditions and temperature extremes.
  • Ability to work in elevated areas.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work below ground.
  • Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
  • Ability to stand.
  • Ability to climb.
  • Ability to kneel.
  • Ability to bend.
  • Ability to walk.
  • Ability to handle heavy tools (i.e. jackhammer).
  • Ability to lift, unassisted, weight to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to carry objects, unassisted, on a plane, on ladders, upstairs, etc., weighing 50 lbs. or less.
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.
  • Ability to hear and understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet.
  • Ability to perceive colors accurately.
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
  • Ability to operate winches, come-alongs, jacks, etc.
  • Ability to maintain dexterity in order to use hand tools, both manual and powered.
  • Ability to push or pull equipment carts.
  • Ability to work in a latex safe environment.
  • Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use as required.
