About The Position

The Building Maintenance Specialist performs responsible skilled work in the maintenance, repair, modification, installation, and construction of buildings and facilities. This position is part of the City Wide Career Development and provides for non-competitive promotions from a Building Maintenance Specialist to a Building Maintenance Specialist II to a Building Maintenance Specialist III, as you earn certifications and gain institutional knowledge, you will progress along this career track for your personal development and growth. Facilities Maintenance Services provide proactive maintenance, make repairs, coordinate renovations, and incorporate life-cycle management for all City facilities. As a Building Maintenance Specialist you will work alongside other maintenance professionals to ensure the City buildings are maintained to a high level.

Requirements

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina

Responsibilities

Performing building maintenance and repair work
Remodeling buildings
Performing preventative maintenance tasks
Assists with electrical, carpentry, plumbing, lighting, masonry and related building maintenance work
Assists with building rooms and additions and remodeling existing rooms/buildings
Picks up and delivers materials to job site
Unstops commodes; repairs leaks; changes wax seals, flush valves and vacuum breaker
Changes light bulbs
Cleans and changes filters; checks belts on motors
Moves office furniture, computer paper; helps install computer wire
