The Building Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for general maintenance and repairs of all equipment and services for buildings at The Culinary Institute of America (CIA). This includes but is not limited to; performing general preventative maintenance (PM) work and inspections, clearing drains and grease traps, servicing mechanical equipment, lighting pilot lights for kitchen appliances, responding to radio requests and emergencies, completing electronic work orders as assigned and coordinating work priorities with the Building Maintenance Operations Manager. The position is physically demanding and often requires heavy lifting of material weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and climbing to heights above twenty (20) feet. At times the work environment may be extremely hot or extremely cold. Temperatures can range from -10F to +110F minus wind chill. Position requires work outdoors, sometimes extreme winter temperatures, in crawl spaces, on rooftops and confined areas where heat is sometimes 110-120 F. Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands to grasp, handle and feel materials, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and taste or smell. Must supply initial pair of anti-slip and anti-mar sole safety work shoes/boots. Must be able to work from high places, on ladders, near the edge of roofs.
