The City of Idaho Falls is seeking a skilled and motivated Building Maintenance Electrician Technician II to join our Facilities Maintenance team. This position performs journey-level electrical work and a wide range of building maintenance duties in support of City facilities, construction projects, renovations, and daily operations. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment while ensuring all work complies with approved plans, safety regulations, and applicable building codes. The ideal candidate is a dependable problem-solver who takes pride in quality workmanship and enjoys working in a dynamic, hands-on environment that helps keep City facilities safe, functional, and operating efficiently.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school; plus, two (2) years of specialized training provide through trade or technical school related to the maintenance and construction fields, facilities management, construction management; AND Two (2) years of experience in building construction or building maintenance requiring skill in the electrical field; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of the electrical field; general architectural engineering principles and practices; legal environment associated with building operations, i.e., OSHA and ADA; facilities maintenance; current methods, principles and practices of building construction, maintenance and repair; equipment and materials used in construction and maintenance operations; price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment; hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities; legal environment related to safety and risk management practices and principles; current building codes, standards.
  • Some knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Skill in the use of power and hand tools and equipment for electrician tasks; drafting equipment; air tools, and other tools required for minor repairs.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, maintain safety and risk management standards; maintain effective preventive maintenance programs; keep operating records and prepare reports; read and understand blueprints; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public; communicate effectively verbally and in writing in the English language.
  • Must possess a Journey Electrician's License
  • Must possess a valid Idaho Driver's license.
  • Must obtain a CDL Class B with Air Brakes within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be available for 24 hour emergency call out.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of complex, journey level skilled duties related to the maintenance, alteration, repair, and installation of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade.
  • Installs new or upgraded electrical equipment and/or systems for the purpose of construction or remodeling and completes circuits according to diagram specifications and code requirements.
  • Maintains light fixtures, outlets, extension poles, connections, switches, and related wiring; monitors mechanical apparatus such as motors, belts, pulleys, etc. to assure proper operation.
  • Responds to electrical service or trouble calls, troubleshoots various problems/issues, and provides problem resolution.
  • Prepares working sketches and works from blueprints, schematics, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Estimates materials, labor, and equipment costs; maintains records and activity reports.
  • Performs or assists as needed in the maintenance and repair work in a variety of skilled trades areas which includes but is not limited to: HVAC, Plumbing, Carpentry, Masonry, Painting, Locksmith.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
