About The Position

City of Edinburg in Edinburg, TX is actively seeking a dedicated Building Maintenance Assistant to oversee the assigned activities toward maintaining assigned City buildings by using appropriate tools and material for building maintenance. This Building Maintenance Assistant position earns competitive pay of $13.38/hr. Requirements

  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency
  • Community college, vocational business, technical, or correspondence school certificates are likely sources
  • Educational Substitute: Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • No experience required
  • Must have a current and valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Attentive to detail
  • Dependability

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of general carpentry, plumbing, repairs, and job training experience is preferred
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Prefer hands-on work
  • Enjoy working as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining repairs and general maintenance of city buildings
  • Follow work schedule as assigned, including and related custodial chores as needed
  • Perform light maintenance and repairs using ladders and changing light bulbs
  • Report any safety hazards and damages in City buildings
  • Securing buildings after working hours or as required
  • Assist in setting up for and breaking down decorations and equipment for special events
  • Repairing wood surfaces
  • Paint structures or areas
  • Remove and replace defective electrical switches and other fixtures
  • Assist on projects in compliance with all City, State, and safety codes
  • Provide assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed
