About The Position

The work involves performing work in the skilled electrical trade, on a journeyman level, in the maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and facilities. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher-level employee or department head that assigns and inspects work for conformance with procedures and standards. The incumbent supervises and trains maintenance workers and laborers assigned to assist in the performance of electrical and related work. Does related work as required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma
  • Three (3) years of experience working as an apprentice Maintenance Worker in the skilled electrical trade.
  • Good knowledge of the tools, terminology, procedures and equipment of the skilled electrical maintenance and repair trades.
  • Ability to make a variety of skilled repairs and installations rapidly and accurately.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints and specifications.
  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language.
  • Ability to get along well with others.
  • Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Initiative and resourcefulness.
  • Industry and dependability.
  • Physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Constructs, inspects, tests, maintains and repairs electrical lighting, power, alarm, signal, communication and generating systems for buildings and equipment, including transformers, distribution equipment, controls, motors, lighting fixtures, special electrical equipment, outlets, wiring, etc.
  • Operates power tools such as pipe machines, piper benders, saws, drills, etc. and hand tools common to the electrical trade.
  • Complies with various Occupational Safety and Health Administration laws and regulations, including reading and understanding Material Safety Data Sheets relating to hazardous materials and other substances.
  • Plans and lays out work; estimates materials and supplies required; reads and interprets blueprints, specifications and written orders to determine nature of work required; requests materials and supplies.
  • Performs related tasks and assists other craftsmen on repair or installation projects.
  • Supervises and trains maintenance workers and laborers assigned to assist in the performance of electrical and related work.
