About The Position

The City of San Gabriel’s Community Development Department is recruiting for Building Inspector to join its team. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, preferably supplemented by vocational/college coursework related to the field.
  • Three years of experience performing building inspections with a public agency or journey level experience in construction work.
  • Possession of a current International Code Council (ICC) Residential or Commercial Inspector Certificate and/or electrical, mechanical and plumbing Certifications, or the ability to secure such certification within one (1) year of appointment is required.
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License is required and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record throughout employment is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs inspections of residential, commercial, industrial and other buildings and structures in all stages of construction, alteration and repairs such as foundation, concrete placement, framing, lathing, plastering, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical installations.
  • Enforces safety regulations.
  • Determines compliance with zoning and building ordinances, codes and regulations and adherence to original plans and specifications.
  • Investigates complaints and inquiries.
  • Performs office and fieldwork involved in enforcing compliance with construction codes, ordinances, policies, and plans.
  • Prepares daily activity records and reports.
  • Maintains complete and accurate files and databases.
  • Interprets, as necessary, construction plans and technical specifications for contractors and communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ascertains conformance with the Building Standard Codes and pertinent provisions of State and County health ordinances.
  • Confers with architects, contractors, builders and the general public.
  • Assist in public counter functions as needed which may include but not limited to permit issuance, process plan for review, answering general questions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
