About The Position

This Building Inspector position is seeking an experienced structural inspector. A candidate should have a keen eye for detail, direct experience in the permitting, installation, and alteration of construction projects, ideally in both residential and commercial applications. The Building Inspector role is a great opportunity for someone who: Has an eye for detail relating to structural safety. Enjoys working with a collaborative and experienced team. Wants to conduct fieldwork in various locations throughout Jefferson County. The Building Inspector is responsible for performing technical inspection work throughout the county. This individual will inspect various structures (industrial, commercial, residential, etc.) to ensure compliance with building codes. The Building Inspector reviews blueprints, diagrams and plans, and a variety of structures in progress and in final form, to ensure compliance with codes. Failed inspections require this role to issue correction notices and stop-work orders, as well as explanations of correction notices and building codes to various officials, agencies and the public. This work also involves responding to complaints regarding potential building code violations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3 years of work-related or volunteer-related experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, if you are from out of state, you must obtain a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire date and you must not have any major violations, nor more than one DUI, DWI, DWAI conviction in the past three years.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 to 6 years of building inspection experience.
  • Residential Inspection experience.
  • Experience with the AMANDA database or something similar.
  • Residential Plumbing Inspector Certificate is required within 1 year of hire.
  • International Code Council Certification as a Residential or Commercial Inspector within 1 year of date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Driving throughout the county to perform various types of inspections (plumbing, and structural safety, etc.).
  • Ensuring compliance with current building safety codes.
  • Interpreting plans and issuing written code interpretations.
  • Working with the Sheriff's Office and fire departments to evaluate hazardous conditions where appropriate.
  • Explaining product installation requirements and clarifying technical codes.
  • Issuing corrections and stop work orders.
  • Ensuring adherence of scope of work to accepted plans and documents.
  • Maintaining a wide variety of accurate records, forms and reports in conjunction with field inspections.
  • Providing customers field training pertaining to construction procedures and code interpretations.
  • Providing administrative backup for office staff. This can include, but is not limited to, answering phones, scheduling inspections, clarifying written notices, explaining policies and procedures and giving general information when needed.
  • This role is expected to testify in court when a situation requires.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
