A successful candidate will play an active role in the City of College Park’s existing operational success. The purpose of the position is to inspect construction and development projects. The successful implementation ensures compliance with local, state, and federal building and zoning regulations. Essential Functions Independent judgment is required to identify, select and apply the most appropriate of available guidelines and procedures as well as interpret precedents. This position is responsible for ensuring residential and commercial project safety and code compliance through regular field inspections including foundations, Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, Erosion and Sedimentation Control, and Final Inspections for occupancy. Review construction plans for compliance with federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and ordinances. Administer the City’s permitting process by reviewing applications and answering customer inquiries. Perform residential and commercial building inspections. Conducts field inspections of residential and commercial construction sites and structures to ensure compliance with city, county, state, and federal codes, ordinances, and regulations; maintains inspection log. Reviews construction plans and documents for compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and ordinances. Inspects unsafe buildings including those that are burned or abandoned and recommends abatement procedures if necessary. Reviews plans and other related construction documents. Issues warnings, stop work orders, and citations for non-compliance. Attends Municipal/Superior Court proceedings when necessary. Attends applicable workshops, forums, and training sessions. Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position.
