About The Position

Conducts onsite inspections of Residential and Commercial projects. Enforces adopted building codes and State and Local Ordinances. Responds to citizen complaints within Hall County. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Performs other related duties assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Six months’ experience as a Licensed Tradesman or an Inspector in the construction field, i.e., framing, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, cross connection, or other.
Ability to read blueprints, maps, and technical drawings.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the minimum level of qualifications stated above.
Current Georgia Driver’s License and a satisfactory MVR.
Ability to achieve required ICC Residential Building Code Certification from a recognized state, national, or international association within 6 months.
Ability to achieve Residential Plumbing, Mechanical, and Electrical inspector certifications from a recognized state, national, or international association certification within one year.
Successfully complete field evaluations as a Building Inspector I.
Successfully complete specified Customer Service Training before the end of the first year in the position.
Knowledge of relevant laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the geography of Hall County.
Knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of commercial and residential construction.
Knowledge of and ability to utilize relevant computer applications.
Knowledge of the techniques of excellent customer service.
Ability to compile, organize, and maintain data, records, and reports.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to use judgment in routine and non-routine situations.
Ability to make required mathematical calculations.
Ability to use a personal computer.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Ability to use tools and equipment used in inspection and measurement of construction elements.
Continuous use of hands and arms.
Ability to move/transport up to 25lbs.
Use of hand/eye coordination to use tools and equipment.

Maintain body equilibrium to prevent failing when walking, standing, crouching or navigating narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
Bend body downward and forward by bending spine and legs, twisting at the waist, hips or knees.
Move about on hands and knees and feet.
Frequently be able to maintain concentration and adjust to change.
Occasionally need to be able to move/transport items over 50lbs.
May be occasionally required to be on call or work irregular hours (nights or weekends).
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects.
Correctable binocular vision sufficient to perform job functions, which means: the ability to adjust focus, close vision, distance vision, no marked red-green deficiency of color vision, normal depth perception, no significant loss of peripheral vision, and no uncorrectable strabismus which is accompanied by double vision.

Responsibilities

Inspect assigned projects throughout the life of the permit.
Patrol assigned district enforcing code violations and erosion control measures.
Investigate complaints related to building code requirements.
Inspect existing structures for violations of safety or sanitation regulations, when codes and ordinances require an inspection.
Communicate with builders and contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, or homeowners of code violations and discuss options to ensure code compliance.
Prepares and maintains reports, databases, and files of inspections and stop work orders, compiles status reports on specific assignments.
Responds to telephone inquiries from citizens, builders, contractors, and public utilities related to code interpretation and enforcement.
Scheduling inspections as requested.
Testifies at appeal hearings and in court.
Operate assigned county vehicle.
