(PLANNING & INSPECTIONS) Building Inspector
About The Position
Sampson County is seeking a skilled, self-motivated professional to join our Planning & Inspections team. In this role, you will protect the safety of residents and businesses by ensuring residential and commercial construction meets the highest code standard. You will serve as a knowledgeable, approachable resource for contractors, developers, and the public - all with a high degree of independence and professionalism. What You'll Do: Conduct technical inspections of residential and commercial structures for compliance with building codes, state laws, and local ordinances Review construction plans Consult with contractors and property owners Document findings of inspections Directly support the safety of Sampson County with your expertise! Strong communication is at the heart of this position. You'll regularly interact with the public, contractors, and colleagues, and your ability to explain code requirements clearly and tactfully will represent Sampson County at its best.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid NC Driver's License
- Standard Level II certification (min.)
- Knowledge of construction practices & codes
- Ability to work with limited supervision
