SUMMARY: Performs residential building inspections for the Planning and Building Services Department; reviews plans and technical drawings, inspects work sites, and verifies compliance to codes, regulations, ordinances, and energy efficiency standards. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Conducts inspections of residential buildings being constructed, repaired, and remodeled to determine compliance with building safety standards, state statutes, county ordinances, and other applicable agency codes. Counsels builders, contractors, engineers, and other interested parties on building code. Enforces building code requirements; confers with other inspectors and County Building Official on the most complex inspections and code interpretation. Responds to, investigates, and resolves complaints concerning life/safety building code violations and other hazardous and illegal conditions; explains and interprets requirements and restrictions to customers. Consults with local fire prevention personnel, Planning, Engineering, and Public Health, as necessary, and makes recommendations on technical issues. Assists the Permit Technician and Plans Examiner in the issuance of building permits and occupancy certificates. Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
