About The Position

This position coordinates and performs inspections of new construction and remodeled buildings to ensure compliance with building codes. Inspects job sites for compliance with safety regulations, zoning requirements, and soil conditions; reviews the site after completion for damage and improvements with right-of-way. Performs inspections of new construction, remodels, and repairs to ensure compliance with building codes. Performs final inspections upon completion of projects to ensure all work has been completed per submitted project documentation. Additionally, ensuring all applicable ordinances are followed. Inputs data into computer software to update and maintain current records of inspections; prepares reports as required. Performs miscellaneous inspections for compliance with various codes and zoning regulations such as swimming pools, aluminum framed enclosures, tents, fire damage repair, and fences. Answers inquiries from the public regarding construction compliance; meets with the public concerning problems and reports results to Building Official. Investigates complaints or reports of unsafe buildings or construction conditions and of unauthorized construction. Inform developers and engineers of deviations or errors; advises corrective actions. Reviews site plans, building drawings, and schematics for conformity with applicable local and state codes. Conduct field meetings to resolve questions and issues. Receives, evaluates, and distributes request for inspections. Perform follow-up inspections to ensure all inspections are completed and properly documented. Attend quarterly training sessions. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws applicable to building codes.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws applicable to electrical codes.
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of building and construction site electrical systems inspections.
Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of building and construction site inspections.
Knowledge of building construction methods, materials, nomenclature, techniques and equipment.
Knowledge of Lotus Notes computer software.
Knowledge of the geography of the city and other local areas.
Skill in conducting electrical code enforcement inspections.
Skill in conducting building and code enforcement inspections.
Skill in the use of specialized electrical tools for testing electrical systems.
Skill in problem solving and decision making.
Skill in operating standard office equipment.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to interpret and explain building codes as required.
Ability to perform inspections under adverse conditions.
Ability to apply objective judgment and make ethical decisions.
Ability to navigate friction and high stress situations.
Completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education and/or vocational training in applicable trades.
One to three years of experience or service.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain International Code Council (ICC) certifications of Residential Building Inspector within one year and Commercial Building Inspector within two years from start of employment.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
