About The Position

SAFEbuilt is seeking a talented and experienced Building Inspector to join its team and perform a variety of community development assignments in the Scranton, Pennsylvania area. The position offers the opportunity to work with a team of professionals and access resources to support the work. The inspector conducts construction inspections, reviews plans and specifications, reports violations, and maintains records. Work takes place in both office and field settings and involves frequent travel between inspection sites and company locations within a region.

Requirements

• PA UCC or ICC Building Inspector Certification(s) required.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license and a good driving record required.
• Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures and technology.
• Ability to interpret codes in the field and provide code-compliant solutions.
• Ability to interact positively with staff, the public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Good time management, organization, and attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
• Ability to walk, stand, climb, bend, stoop, crawl, or kneel frequently while conducting inspections.
• Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, or unfinished stairways to access elevated or confined areas.
• Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 25–50 pounds.
• Visual acuity sufficient to read construction plans and technical documents and observe construction details.
• Ability to detect safety hazards and defects through visual and auditory inspection.
• Hearing sufficient to communicate in noisy environments.
• Manual dexterity to handle tools, operate inspection equipment, and use computers or tablets for reporting.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and construction-site conditions and drive frequently between inspection sites.

Nice To Haves

• Additional PA UCC or ICC Inspector Certifications are strongly preferred.
• Experience in municipal code inspections is preferred.

Responsibilities
