About The Position

The City of Chandler Development Services Department is seeking qualified individuals for the role of Building Inspector Senior or Building Inspector, depending on experience. This position is part of a progressive and innovative team that collaborates with the development community, contractors, other departments, and citizens to deliver quality services. The Building Inspections team supports the City of Chandler's Mission and Values. The Building Inspector Senior performs more complex field and office work, inspecting larger industrial and commercial buildings for code compliance. The Building Inspector performs field and office work, inspecting residential and commercial construction projects for code compliance, working under close supervision while developing knowledge of inspection practices, codes, and regulations.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED and additional technical training.
  • 3 years of experience in building inspection; or 3 years of construction work in one of the four major trades: Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical or Building Construction or a related field, and a minimum of 1 year of building inspection experience.
  • 2 ICC Inspector Certifications upon hire or promotion.
  • A valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
  • High School Diploma or GED and some coursework or technical training in construction, building inspection, or a related field.
  • 2 years of construction-related experience including 1 year of building inspection experience.
  • At least 1 ICC certification within 6 months of hire or promotion.
  • A valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional ICC (International Code Council) certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex field work and office work.
  • Inspect larger and more complex industrial and commercial buildings to ensure compliance with electrical, mechanical, plumbing, structural, fire, energy, and accessibility codes.
  • Perform field and office work.
  • Inspect residential and commercial construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable building and construction codes.
  • Work under close supervision while developing knowledge of inspection practices, codes, and regulations.
