Reporting to the Building Official and under general direction, this role responds to inquiries from developers, contractors, and the public regarding building code compliance. It involves reviewing complex residential and commercial building plans and specifications for compliance with applicable building codes and ordinances, conducting on-site inspections for code compliance, assisting with and advising staff on the application and interpretation of adopted codes, and performing a variety of plans examination duties. The Building Inspector / Plans Examiner II classification is distinguished from the Building Inspector / Plans Examiner I by its greater amount of required experience and International Code Council (ICC) certification requirements, responsibility for more complex plan reviews and inspections, and advisory responsibility to the Building Official for code interpretations of state, local and international building codes and ordinances.
