About The Position

Friends of the Children is seeking an exceptional Building + Events Manager to launch and advance the reach of the Duncan and Cindy Campbell National Center of Excellence for Professional Youth Mentoring. This organization is dedicated to impacting generational change by empowering youth facing the greatest obstacles through long-term relationships with paid professional mentors. The National Center of Excellence, located in Portland's historic Albina neighborhood and set to be completed in fall of 2026, will serve as a hub for evidence-sharing, innovation, training, and technical assistance in professional youth mentoring. The ideal candidate will be skilled in both event execution and advancing professional mentoring to improve the lives of children and families.

  • CPR/First Aid Certification (initial certification may be secured within first 6 months of first assignment to this position).
  • Track record of executing projects, events, and renovations, including planning, budgeting, and on-time delivery.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage schedules, logistics, and basic budgets.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as required for events.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in facilities management, event planning, nonprofit operations, or community programming preferred.
  • Experience in education, public sector, or mission-driven organizations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the facility, ensuring a clean, safe, and professional environment.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections of the building and equipment.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Monitor building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security, and fire safety.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and local regulations.
  • Manage building access, security protocols, and key distribution.
  • Maintain inventory of facility supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with facility budgeting and expense tracking.
  • Respond promptly to facility issues or emergencies.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support center of excellence programs, trainings, workshops, and special events.
  • Collaborate with staff, partners, and facilitators to understand event needs and objectives.
  • Coordinate logistics including room reservations, setup, technology, catering, and staffing.
  • Serve as the primary on-site contact during events.
  • Ensure events align with the Center’s mission, policies, and safety standards.
  • Oversee event setup, operations, and breakdown.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during events to ensure a positive experience.
  • Conduct pre- and post-event meetings as required to review/communicate group needs and feedback.
  • Plan and execute events that increase brand awareness, introduce new guests and funding opportunities to Friends of the Children.
  • Support a welcoming and inclusive environment for youth, families, and partners.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all building and event users.
  • Assist with scheduling and space utilization to maximize program impact.
