About The Position

The National, Autograph Collection is seeking a Building Engineer to join their team. This role is crucial for maintaining the luxury hotel's property, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and well-operating environment for guests and staff. The Building Engineer will be responsible for a wide range of maintenance tasks, from guest room repairs to managing building systems, and will play a key role in delivering refined hospitality in an iconic setting.

Requirements

  • Previous commercial building, hotel, facilities, or property maintenance experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of general building maintenance and multiple maintenance trades, including electrical, plumbing, drywall, painting, carpentry, and carpet repair.
  • Ability to operate power tools, hand tools, ladders, and other maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate motorized vehicles and specialized trade equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required government licenses, certificates, or permits.
  • Ability to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work orders based on urgency and operational needs.
  • Must be safety-conscious and committed to following all required safety procedures.
  • Ability to maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Willingness to learn new skills, obtain required licenses or certifications, and stay current with applicable safety requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous hotel or hospitality engineering experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to General Maintenance service calls and address maintenance needs throughout the property.
  • Perform basic repairs and preventative maintenance in guest rooms, public spaces, and other hotel areas.
  • Work across a variety of maintenance needs, including plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, carpentry, flooring, and general repairs.
  • Prioritize work orders and urgent requests to minimize disruption to guests and hotel operations.
  • Inspect machinery, equipment, and building systems to ensure they meet operational and safety standards.
  • Move furniture, equipment, guest luggage, and other items as needed to complete maintenance projects.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Identify materials and supplies needed for projects and assist with ordering and picking up items as necessary.
  • Provide timely and professional maintenance support to hotel departments and leadership.
  • Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized throughout each project.
  • Handle chemicals and maintenance materials according to hotel and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Maintain proper security and accountability of assigned keys.
  • Assist with outdoor maintenance tasks, including shoveling, clean-up, and snow or ice removal when needed.
  • Work independently while knowing when to communicate issues or request additional support.
  • Take on additional maintenance responsibilities based on property needs and business volume.
