About The Position

The Building Engineer performs preventative building maintenance, outdoor maintenance, and repairs at Creekside Elementary School. Assignments may include elementary, middle, and high schools, and the employee may be temporarily reassigned to another District school to cover vacancies. The position supports school activities and events, responds to service calls, and audits facilities to identify maintenance needs.

Requirements

• High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
• No professional work experience required.
• Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.
• Ability to lift or carry 50 pounds.
• Ability to work flexible hours.
• Good motor skills to perform tasks requiring hand tools and machinery.

Nice To Haves

• General maintenance, construction, or grounds experience.
• Experience with various hand and power tools.
• Customer service experience.
• Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Perform building maintenance, including cleaning, graffiti removal, wall patching and painting, moving items within the building, preventative maintenance checks and services, and limited electrical, plumbing, and HVAC tasks.
• Set up, tear down, and clean up for school activities and events; open the assigned building at established times when applicable.
• Perform outdoor maintenance, including sweeping steps, entryways, and alcoves; picking up trash; emptying outdoor garbage receptacles; removing snow and ice from walkways and entryways; and pressure washing exterior sidewalks once a year.
• Respond to school radio and cell phone calls for service, including possible emergency biohazard cleanups.
• Audit facilities and report maintenance needs to the appropriate supporting entity.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
