Requirements

  • Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering – Preference for those candidates with completed courses in Building Science
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as an Engineer-in-Training with EGBC
  • 0 to 3 years previous experience in building enclosure engineering, engineering or construction
  • Experience in a consulting firm environment
  • Effective and proven leadership skills
  • Strong time management skills to successfully balance working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Fast learner with a desire to grow professionally and personally
  • Team player with ability to work independently with minimum direction
  • Hard worker, ready to assume responsibility quickly and have fun at the same time
  • Inquisitive, clear thinker who can determine what work is required and who can draw rational conclusions from information available
  • Demonstrated and effective communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Ability to conceptualize in three dimensions
  • Aptitude for working with existing facilities

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with RJC’s Building Enclosure Project Engineers, creating envelope solutions that contribute to the reduction of carbon in buildings and maximize energy efficiency to meet and exceed current code. This includes working projects targeting sustainability standards such as Zero Carbon Building, Passive House, LEED etc.
  • Work closely with Project Engineers within the project team environment, through the life cycle of a project from conceptual and preliminary stages of the design through to completion
  • Collaborate with architects and other design consultants on design review for new construction projects, including development of building enclosure details that align with industry best practice
  • Engage in site investigation, evaluation of existing buildings, preparation of reports and studies
  • Participate in the development of drawings and specifications for projects involving new and existing buildings
  • Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis, including basic project costing
  • Perform Building Envelope Thermal Bridging Calculations to support design team with effective assembly RSI values
  • Follow quality control procedures established by the practice
  • Participate in administration/construction review on active construction sites
