Under the direction of the Senior Custodian, the Building Custodian is responsible for the overall cleanliness, sanitation, security, safety, and maintenance of the assigned facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment. This role involves opening and closing school buildings, performing custodial cleaning, monitoring bathrooms, handling bodily fluid spills according to Universal Precautions, unclogging plumbing, maintaining and repairing flooring, fixtures, and furniture, setting up for events, removing snow and ice, and performing daily checks of mechanical spaces. The custodian also replaces lightbulbs and ceiling tiles, changes classroom air filters, utilizes AHERA reports, and may operate lawn maintenance equipment. They are responsible for responding to security and fire alarms, carrying a radio for communication, and completing work orders and assignments issued by Senior Custodians. The position ensures building-wide cleaning operations are carried out and informs the Senior Custodian of needed supplies. The role may also involve other custodial duties as required to meet the needs of the school district.
