About The Position

The purpose of this position is to keep City buildings in clean and orderly condition. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Duties may include performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs, and cleaning debris from sidewalk. To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, each essential function satisfactorily. Requirements

  • High School graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
  • One (1) plus years of experience in building maintenance or commercial janitorial services.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
  • Must be able to pass Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification.
  • Individual must have insured vehicle to get between work sites.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the mission statement and values of the City of Cibolo Public Works Department.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word.
  • Ability to take care of the customers’ needs while following company procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Services, cleans, or supplies restrooms.
  • Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and/or vacuuming.
  • Gathers and empties trash.
  • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners, and powers equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Mixes water and detergents or other chemicals in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
  • Cleans windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.
  • Notifies managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Requisitions supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Dusts furniture, walls, machines, or equipment.
  • Strips, seals, finishes, and polishes floors.
  • Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures.
  • Steams, cleans, or shampoos carpets.
  • Moves heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours or checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
  • Sets up, arranges, or removes decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.
  • Makes minor repairs to facilities including, but not limited to, wall patching and painting, furniture installation, plumbing, or other needed items.
  • May assist with the cleaning and restoring building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water, using commercial cleaning equipment.
  • Drive vans, industrial trucks, or other vehicles required to travel to or to perform cleaning work.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Cibolo and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
  • All other duties as assigned.
