A Building Consulting Intern assists with field observations, technical data collection, and report preparation for construction, forensic, or engineering projects. J.S. Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Familiarity with Xactimate and/or Cotality is preferred
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Adobe, or similar documentation software is a plus
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to industry-standard software platforms
  • Experience with photo documentation and digital file management systems is advantageous
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Analytical mindset with keen attention to detail
  • Ability to document observations clearly and concisely for senior consultants and project managers
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate field notes, and prioritize deliverables in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of basic construction site safety protocols and willingness to adhere to company safety standards and industry regulations
  • A valid driver's license is required for site visits and travel to project locations
  • Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and a proactive approach to learning
  • Ability to work collaboratively with experienced consultants and adapt to feedback
  • Ability to climb ladders, walk on roofs, and safely navigate construction sites
  • Capability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40–80 lbs
  • Must be comfortable working in various weather conditions and at heights
  • Must be able to commute to our River Edge, NJ and/or our Wall St office on a hybrid schedule

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site inspections and field assessments for roofing, siding, structural components, interior and exterior finishes
  • Perform dimensioning and photographic documentation at project sites
  • Support experienced consultants in analyzing project conditions and identifying potential scope of work
  • Prepare and update client documentation, scope summaries, and project reports
  • Input and manage technical data using industry-standard software including Xactimate, Cotality, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Excel
  • Execute project clerking duties including tracking project timelines, deliverables, and client communications
  • Organize and maintain project files, photographs, and technical records in accordance with company standards
  • Assist in preparing estimates, cost analyses, and project summaries for client review
  • Communicate findings and observations clearly to senior consultants and project managers
  • Maintain accurate field notes and ensure all documentation is complete and properly formatted
