About The Position

Tew & Taylor is seeking a highly skilled Building Code Plans Examiner & Inspector with experience in Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing inspections for both commercial and residential projects to join their Jacksonville, FL team. This role is mission-critical, ensuring compliance with the Florida Building Code and local regulations by reviewing construction plans and performing on-site inspections. The position involves collaborating directly with contractors, developers, and permitting authorities to keep projects moving and avoid costly delays. Requirements

Minimum 5+ years in building code plan review and/or inspections (commercial + residential).
Florida or ICC Certified Building Code Inspector in Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing disciplines for Commercial and/or Residential dwellings required.
Must be located in the greater Jacksonville, FL area.
Strong knowledge of Florida Building Code, including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and energy provisions.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction documents, including blueprints and specifications.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client-facing interactions.
High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Clear, professional communicator with excellent client-facing skills.
Detail-oriented and organized, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

Nice To Haves

Certification as a Plans Examiner or the ability to obtain certification within six months of employment (preferred: ICC or Florida Board of Building Code Administrators).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and permitting software (preferred).

Responsibilities

Conduct detailed reviews of architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing plans for compliance with Florida Building Code and local ordinances.
Provide clear and concise feedback to clients regarding required corrections or clarifications.
Ensure plan reviews are completed within specified timeframes to meet same-day or next-day service commitments.
Communicate effectively with contractors, design professionals, and permitting officials to address questions or resolve issues.
Stay up-to-date with changes in building codes and regulations and apply them to your reviews.
Maintain accurate records of reviews, correspondence, and project progress.
Work closely with the permitting team and local building officials to resolve issues efficiently.
Maintain detailed records of inspections, correspondence, and approvals.
Conduct inspections of structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems at all construction stages.
Verify full compliance with Florida Building Code, local ordinances, and floodplain requirements.
Document results, flag deficiencies, and communicate required corrections clearly to clients.
Complete inspections and reports on time to support our same-day/next-day turnaround commitment.
Stay current on Florida Building Code updates and industry best practices.
Collaborate with the team to refine processes and deliver a seamless client experience.
