About The Position

The Utilities and Engineering Services department with Facilities and Business Operations is seeking a qualified candidate to fill their BAS Analyst III (TRANE) vacancy. The incumbent will serve as a subject matter expert for TRANE Building Automation Systems, leading the design, programming, commissioning, and optimization of advanced control solutions that drive building performance and energy efficiency. In this role, you will troubleshoot and refine complex HVAC and integrated building systems, applying deep expertise in direct digital controls, airflow, hydronics, and building control strategies. You will collaborate closely with technicians, engineers, and external partners to ensure reliable system operation, occupant comfort, and long-term sustainability. This is a hands-on, high-impact opportunity to shape the performance of critical building systems while mentoring others and advancing TRANE BAS best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree and 6+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
  • Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license.
  • The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of progressive experience designing, programming, commissioning, and supporting TRANE Building Automation Systems, including Tracer SC+/Enterprise and UC controllers, in large or complex facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of DDC controls, HVAC sequences of operation, airflow, hydronics, and system integration with experience in retro‑commissioning and performance optimization.
  • Industry‑recognized certifications such as Certified Controls Systems Technician (CCST – Level II or III), TRANE certifications, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), LEED AP, or similar credentials related to controls, energy, or building systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Facilities Management, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated experience using system analytics, trend data, and performance metrics to improve operational efficiency, energy performance, and occupant comfort.
  • Proficiency with BAS networking concepts, databases, HMI/graphics development, and integration with IT infrastructure; experience working alongside cybersecurity teams is a plus.
  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or large institutional campuses with complex, mission‑critical building systems and diverse stakeholder environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, program, test, commission, and optimize TRANE Building Automation Systems (BAS) to ensure system performance, energy efficiency, reliability, and occupant comfort.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, retro‑commissioning, and sequence of operations analysis for complex HVAC, lighting, and integrated building control systems.
  • Develop and implement system enhancements, modernization strategies, and control solutions using system analytics, historical trend data, and performance modeling to improve operational outcomes and Facilities Performance Indicators (FPIs).
  • Maintain and update BAS hardware, software, HMI graphics, databases, networks, and configurations while ensuring accurate system documentation and asset records, including Facilities Condition Assessments (FCA).
  • Prioritize and manage complex HVAC and controls work orders, proactively addressing comfort, indoor air quality, and life‑safety issues while ensuring timely resolution of urgent needs.
  • Serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert, providing guidance to engineers, controls specialists, contractors, and campus partners; manage vendor relationships and support system upgrades and project delivery.
  • Collaborate across campus units, IT, and cybersecurity teams to ensure secure, resilient BAS architecture and provide reporting, metrics, and data to support energy management and decision‑making.
  • Administer and advance University Building Automation Standards and Specifications, supporting integrated design processes, reviewing design documents, and reporting on project compliance and performance.
