About The Position

This position serves as a Building Attendant for the Cultural Affairs Division within the City of Gainesville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department. The role provides on-site support for cultural facilities and events, helping ensure spaces are prepared, welcoming, and operating smoothly for programs, rentals, and public activities. The Cultural Affairs Division produces festivals, concerts, performances, exhibitions, educational workshops, historic and cultural programs, ceremonies, and community celebrations. The Building Attendant plays an important role in supporting these activities by assisting with facility oversight, event setup and cleanup, basic facility maintenance, and guest services. This position averages approximately 20-25 hours per week, with hours scheduled based on program and event needs, including evenings and weekends. Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under close supervision. Work in this class is distinguished from higher classes by its lack of supervisory responsibility and from lower classes by its emphasis on setting up and monitoring city events.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, and one year experience in janitorial work that includes public contact, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Florida Drivers License required.
  • Work requires physical strength and agility.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work requires wearing uniform supplied and in compliance with dress code.
  • This position requires DCF screening

Responsibilities

  • Performs general janitorial and attendant work at assigned building facilities and grounds, including set-up and clean-up after events and activities.
  • Moves and lifts heavy equipment, tables, chairs, and other objects to prepare for and clean up after events and programs.
  • Locks and unlocks facilities and notifies appropriate authorities in event of emergency.
  • Monitors events and programs and assists as needed.
  • Enforces strict applicable rules and regulations by informing general public participants.
  • Attends work on continuous and regular basis.
  • May perform lead worker or supervisory duties with contract and temporary employees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
