About The Position

This role is designed to assist in maintaining a safe and organized school environment, enabling students to fully benefit from the instructional program. The Building Assistant will provide clerical and instructional support to teachers, manage student and parent needs, and supervise various school areas to ensure student safety and appropriate conduct.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree or High School Diploma/G.E.D. and evidence of education or testing requirements according to PDE guidelines.
  • Ability to exercise a high tolerance for frustration and a high degree of patience.
  • Ability to de-escalate potentially aggressive situations.
  • Ability to operate a computer and applicable software and devices.
  • Ability to work as an individual and as a team member.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
  • Experience working with students preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical assistance for teachers as directed by supervisor.
  • Assist the teacher with individual and small group instruction.
  • Assist in handling student and parent needs.
  • Assist in monitoring of lunchroom, lavatories, playgrounds and corridors/stairwells.
  • Accompany students to and from various locations within the building as assigned.
  • Assist with monitoring of students entering and leaving building.
  • Assist with preparation of educational materials, and audio-visual aids and equipment.
  • Distribute and collect educational materials as required.
  • Assist in inventorying and organization of general supplies and educational materials.
  • Report incidents and discipline problems to principal or designee and assist with providing support.
  • Supervise assigned student(s) who require(s) transportation to maintain appropriate conduct in boarding areas and on the bus.
  • Assist assigned students including those that require ambulatory support (walker, crutches, wheelchair) in getting on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.
  • Assist in investigating and mediating student conflicts.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide support to the main office.
  • Assist in preparing displays for bulletin boards, cabinets, showcases, etc.
  • Assist in correction of students' work.
  • Support the operations of the In-School Suspension (ISS) Center.
  • Monitor student behavior in the classroom in an emergency situation.
  • Make and answer phone calls as directed by the teacher or supervisor.
  • Assist in maintaining child accounting records as needed.
  • Monitor/supervise activities that may be planned by school personnel.
  • Must be willing to engage in ongoing professional development.
