About The Position

Under supervision, and with latitude for decision making, candidate will perform field inspections; generate reports; meet with representatives from external agencies/utilities; attend meetings. Specific duties will include but not be limited to the following: Maintain oil/ water separator and fuel oil management systems equipment at different locations. Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and modification of oil recovery systems, which may include pumps, compressors, water separators, and wells used to capture, separate, and recover oil. Manage oil requests for all 5 Boroughs. Provide mobile boilers as needed and repair fuel oil monitoring systems. Assist with sample collection. Assist in the oil tank maintenance and oil tank testing of vaulted tanks. Supervise and guide front-line staff in the dismantling, assembling, and repair of oil systems, oil spills, and oil deliveries. Track inspection findings, manage corrective actions, and coordinate with Property Maintenance, Technical Services, and external agencies to ensure timely compliance and closure of violations. Supervise and guide front-line staff with remedial visits and site inspections. Respond to oil spills and other emergencies. Preparing, reviewing, and submitting PBS (Petroleum Bulk Storage) reports, ensuring compliance with FDNY, NYSDEC, and other regulatory requirements, and addressing any violations or corrective actions identified during inspections. Assist skilled trade administrators and heating superintendents with creating and closing work orders related to FOMS for repairs or replacement. Candidate selected must be available to work and travel throughout the five boroughs; and will be required to work rotating shifts, including holidays and weekends.

Requirements

  • One year of permanent service in the title of Supervisor of Housing Caretakers, Heating Plant Technician (Housing Authority), Maintenance Worker or Supervising Housing Groundskeeper; or
  • A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, plus four years of experience in the operation, repair and maintenance of large tenanted buildings, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity over at least two employees.
  • Higher education may be substituted for up to two years of this experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for each year of experience.
  • All candidates must have at least two years of experience supervising at least two maintenance employees.
  • A valid Motor Vehicle Driver’s License is required for this position. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
