About The Position

The Building and Grounds Operative serves a crucial role within the Maintenance Department and is dedicated to preserving the exterior and interior areas of Peace Village’s campus. The Operative will focus primarily on exterior grounds maintenance, landscaping repairs, and upkeep of common areas while also providing support to maintenance operations as needed. This role requires proficiency in the use of outdoor power equipment and the ability to perform tasks independently. Commitment to exceptional customer service and respect for our resident community is essential.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Working knowledge of the following equipment/tools: Drills, saws, plumbing equipment, hardware, carpentry equipment, tractor, gardening tools, snow removal equipment, electric and HVAC equipment, & rodder, skid-steer, aerial lift, pressure washers, chain saw, branch chippers, wood splitters, lawn mowers, lawn edgers, and all landscaping related power equipment.
Grounds keeping experience
Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

Perform routine groundskeeping duties, including mowing, trimming, pruning, upkeep of lawns, shrubbery, garden beds, along with exterior cleanup of walkways, patios, and other outdoor common areas and furniture.
Operate and maintain outdoor power equipment (e.g., lawnmowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, aerial lifts, skid-loaders, pressure washers, and other outdoor equipment).
Conduct seasonal tasks to maintain clean and attractive grounds, including leaf collection, debris removal, and holiday lighting.
Prepare grounds for landscape installations, including grass seed bed preparation, sod installation, and planting of shrubs and flowers.
Reporting and documentation of grounds
Garbage/recycling collection
Assist with light to medium interior maintenance, including basic plumbing, electric, light carpentry, paint, staining, and repairs.
Perform inspections and upkeep of exterior structures, sidewalks, parking areas, and pathways.
Collaborate with Maintenance and Housekeeping teams to assist with resident moves and the setup/takedown of furniture for resident programs or room rentals and events.
Conduct routine inspections of outdoor equipment and report any service needs or replacements.
Conduct basic irrigation repairs and adjustments to ensure proper watering of plants and lawns.
Material handling and labor support
Follow all OSHA standards and Peace Village safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
Foster positive relationships with residents and provide responsive customer service to their requests, aligning with Peace Village’s mission and departmental protocols.
