About The Position

The Building and Grounds Manager is responsible for the overall cleanliness and safety of building operations, including oversight of grounds and exterior operations of Agrace facilities, as well as oversight of all Housekeeping operations. This role ensures safe, clean, efficient, and well-maintained interior and exterior environments that support staff, patients, visitors, and organizational objectives.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Knowledge of housekeeping, building and grounds operations and infection prevention standards in healthcare.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills.
  • Experience using industry specific software.
  • Experience developing policy and procedure.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to be flexible in time and task to meet organizational needs.
  • Experience in project management, strategic planning and execution, budgeting, and controlling costs.
  • Ability to engage staff in Agrace’s strategic and annual operating plans and LEAN projects and to ensure strategies and improvements remain in practice.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality about patients, families, caregivers, staff, donors, and organizational intellectual property.
  • Ability to use proper body mechanics and standard precautions.
  • Ability to participate in the facility operations weekend rotation and on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, engage and retain department staff.
  • Assign, direct and verify the work of direct reports.
  • Assess staff performance and provide feedback, coaching, correction and development opportunities.
  • Coordinate staff and schedules to provide coverage for cleaning of facilities and facility-related projects.
  • Coordinate housekeeping volunteer responsibilities and projects; supervise volunteers.
  • Ensure that housekeeping staff are trained on applicable regulatory requirements, safety standards, and in-house policies/procedures/protocols.
  • Support and perform routine cleaning and housekeeping tasks to ensure regularly scheduled shifts are filled, coordinating supply and inventory management.
  • Assume accountability for housekeeping standards and corresponding policies/procedures/protocols.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction with the overall comfort, appearance, and cleanliness of facilities.
  • Ensure and verify customer satisfaction, seek feedback, and implement best practices for housekeeping service excellence.
  • Assume responsibility and administration of the environmental aspect of the Facilities Operations Program including DNR, medical waste and confidential documentation handling.
  • Provide oversight of all grounds, landscaping, horticulture, and exterior site operations across Agrace facilities.
  • Coordinate with the landscape and grounds program to ensure safe, attractive, and mission-supportive outdoor environments.
  • Ensure snow removal operations, monitoring of winter conditions, and timely response to weather-related safety concerns.
  • Monitor exterior hardscapes, walkways, parking areas, and landscaped areas for safety risks and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Support planning for seasonal grounds activities, exterior improvements, and special events impacting outdoor areas.
  • Ensure compliance with Agrace policies and protocols and applicable local, state, and federal regulations related to grounds and exterior operations.
  • Identify and coordinate safety and security needs and provide recommendation for improvement.
  • Respond to safety and security related incidents.
  • Provide leadership and support for safety and security committee(s) and acts as a point of contact on safety-related matters. Maintains a safe and secure facility. Provide emergency response when required.
  • Develop and maintain vendor and contractor relationships.
  • Manage the housekeeping, grounds, and safety-related sections of the facility operations budget.
  • Make recommendations for and implement capital improvements related to security interior and exterior facility conditions.
  • Supports the facility operations within the assigned Housekeeping and Grounds department after hours, on weekends and as needed to ensure the uninterrupted building operations.
  • Participate in internal work groups, meetings, and committees relative to position responsibilities.
  • Ensure compliance with Agrace policies and protocols, state, federal, and other regulations.
  • Develop and adhere to annual department operating budget.
