At SafeLease, we're rethinking how P&C insurance is sold in an age of technological change. We believe the industry's biggest inefficiencies aren't technical problems — they're structural ones. And we're building the team to tackle them. SafeLease is a profitable insurance business that designs, underwrites, and distributes specialty coverage for commercial property owners and their tenants. Most insurance companies either distribute products or bear the risk — we do both. We back our policies with our own capital, which means we control the full stack: product design, tech, and the speed at which we move. That end-to-end ownership lets us offer customers real flexibility, saving time and money for more than 4,000 properties insured for billions in value nationwide. We're a team of 70, growing over 100% annually, and we've done it without sacrificing profitability or culture. Here, you'll get high discretion and a wide aperture of problems to solve. We embrace the newest technologies, move fast together, and operate with the intensity of a small company where every person's work is visible. If you're looking for a place to sharpen your craft alongside people who take their work seriously, you'll fit right in. Why "Builder"? The best people on our team start with a business problem, figure out what should exist to solve it, and then build it, often end-to-end. They talk to stakeholders, sketch out solutions, make product and design decisions, write the code, and ship it. They use AI tools not as a novelty but as a core part of how they work. The line between "product thinking" and "engineering" isn't one they spend much time drawing. We call this role Builder because that's what it actually is. You'll work in small pods with a GM who sets direction, but how you get there and what you build along the way is largely up to you. If you're looking for a well-defined backlog and a narrow lane, this probably isn't the right fit. If you want the autonomy to solve real problems and the context to understand why they matter, keep reading. About the Role To drive our mission forward, this role will: Start with the problem, not the ticket. Understand the business context behind what you're building. Know why it matters to customers, to the business, and to the team. Own outcomes, not just output. Take features from idea to production. That means participating in product and design decisions, not waiting for a spec to land in your lap. Build across the full stack. Write clean, maintainable code across frontend, backend, and infrastructure with a focus on reliability, performance, and simplicity. Use AI as a force multiplier. Leverage AI-powered tools to move faster, explore solutions more broadly, and spend your time on the problems that actually require human judgment. Improve the system, not just your code. Identify opportunities to make the platform better, the team faster, and the product sharper. Bring ideas, not just implementations. Collaborate with high context. Work closely with your pod, leadership, and cross-functional partners. Share what you know, ask what you don't. About You You're a problem solver who happens to write code, not the other way around. You care about what gets built as much as how it gets built. You're comfortable with ambiguity, energized by ownership, and sharp enough to develop a working understanding of the business you're building for.
