About The Position

The primary objective of this position is to assist in maintaining the budgeting processes of the City and contribute to various accounting functions. Primary duties include assisting in budget and capital improvement plan development and implementation, ensuring the accuracy of accounting procedures, and providing assistance to the Assistant CFO/Budget Manager and Chief Financial Officer/Controller as directed. Hiring Salary Range is $86,102.98 - $111,933.87 Full Salary Range is $86,102.98 - $124,849.32

Requirements

  • Four year Accounting degree.
  • Three years accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the preparation and analysis of financial statements.
  • Experience with City budget and capital improvement plan development and implementation.
  • Government accounting experience.
  • CPA certificate holder, CPA licensed or Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) through GFOA.

Responsibilities

  • Annual budget and capital improvement plan development and implementation
  • Assist in planning, preparation, data entry and evaluation for budget and capital improvement plan processes as assigned by the Assistant CFO/Budget Manager
  • Coordination with City departments assisting with annual processes
  • Responsible for submittal of annual GFOA budget award application and ongoing improvements as needed to secure the award
  • In coordination with Administration and Community Relations Divisions, responsible for all budget and capital improvement presentation materials (PowerPoints) and support as assigned for document development
  • Support implementation of future budget and/or capital planning software as implemented
  • Participate in various rate analysis and revenue projections
  • Assist with preparation and review of year-end carry forwards
  • Assist with Council Letter preparation and reviews
  • Maintain Finance related City web pages
  • Assist with the annual audit and prepare various workpapers and schedules to ensure accuracy and meet reporting timelines.
  • Prepare quarterly internal budgeted fund summaries for the City Administrator including financial analysis.
  • Provide technical direction on invoice coding, journal entries and other transactions to accounting technicians and other support staff.
  • Prepare and analyze periodic financial statements for various City funds.
  • Assists the Administration and Finance Department in monitoring the accounting and internal control systems.
  • Support implementation of new accounting systems and software.
  • Assists management in the preparation of special reports, analytical research and project implementation
