About The Position

The BUCS Academy Leader supports the implementation of the BUCS Academy, a three-week residential summer launch program for incoming first-year students. Leaders are responsible for facilitating a structured, immersive student experience focused on academic engagement, campus connection, and successful transition into the university. Leaders serve as primary points of contact for a small cohort of participants and are responsible for maintaining a safe, organized, and supportive environment. This role requires sustained engagement, professionalism, and full participation in all scheduled program activities. This position is temporary and requires full availability during the program period. Due to the immersive nature of the program, outside employment, coursework, or other commitments are not permitted during the program.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled ETSU student in good academic and conduct standing
  • Completion of at least 30 credit hours by the end of the Spring semester
  • Ability to work the full program schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to commit to all required training sessions prior to program start
  • Willingness to complete the NASPA Certified Peer Educator (CPE) certification (cost covered by the Jordan Center)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated reliability and professionalism

Nice To Haves

  • Prior participation in BUCS Academy or similar transition program
  • Experience in peer leadership, mentoring, student employment, or residential life
  • Experience working with first-year college students

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and engage a cohort of BUCS Academy participants throughout the program
  • Facilitate community development and positive peer interaction within assigned cohort
  • Support daily program operations, including academic sessions, workshops, activities, and transitions
  • Assist with student check-in, move-in, and program orientation
  • Maintain accountability for student attendance, participation, and conduct
  • Serve as a visible and active presence during scheduled daytime, evening, and weekend programming
  • Respond appropriately to student concerns and escalate issues to professional staff as needed
  • Uphold all university policies and BUCS Academy program expectations
  • Participate in required pre-program training and planning sessions
