About The Position

This course examines the intersect between legal and business issues that challenge entrepreneurs as they develop their ideas, launch their new venture, finance and manage their growth and assess possible exit strategies. Real world scenarios will be examined to identify various legal strategies employed by successful and unsuccessful new businesses. Law can be a tool to build competitive advantage or a tool to disrupt. Key topics covered in this course will include intellectual property law, advertising and marketing law, commercial financing, and government regulation of competition.

Requirements

  • LLB/JD degree from a Canadian University or an equivalent degree from another country with a Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee on Accreditation.
  • Called to the Bar of Ontario or equivalent law society of another Canadian Province or Territory
  • A current member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario
  • Current relevant experience as a practicing lawyer
  • Demonstrated knowledge of intellectual property and competition law
  • Demonstrated ability to teach law to undergraduate students
  • Familiarity with the content of BU451

Responsibilities

  • Ability to maintain regular and consistent office hours
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with in-class and out of class technology
  • Capacity to work as part of a faculty teaching team to ensure consistency across classes in a multi-section course across terms
