About The Position

The BSA Specialist I is responsible for supporting the overall BSA (Bank Secrecy Act) compliance of the credit union. Involves performing daily functions, conducting research, providing project support, and ensuring timely communication to meet BSA compliance requirements and goals.

Requirements

  • One to three years direct BSA knowledge or related investigatory experience required.
  • Working knowledge of AML/CFT priorities, CIP, and OFAC required.
  • A two-year college degree or (2) completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

  • Review OFAC hits identified in Verafin (or other systems) and either clear these hits or escalate them to management.
  • Address assigned Verafin alerts related to transaction monitoring, ensuring timely decisions and referrals for further review when necessary.
  • Manage the daily Excessive Cash Report and Verafin CTRs, ensuring CTRs are completed accurately and submitted promptly for review.
  • Participate in case meetings to determine the necessity of SAR filings and complete assigned SARs accurately and on time.
  • Conduct account reviews to ensure Member Identification Program (MIP) requirements are met at account opening.
  • Collaborate with management to proactively enhance the Credit Union’s BSA compliance and training program.
  • Partner with other departments within the Credit Union to identify fraud patterns, notify law enforcement of known fraud, and provide relevant information to management.
  • Respond promptly to staff and member inquiries via phone or email related to areas of responsibility and assist in addressing complaints of non-compliance as needed.
  • Work effectively and cooperatively with other staff, management, committee members, and members to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrate strong regulatory knowledge applicable to this position and understand and comply with government regulations with particular emphasis on the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), US Patriot Act and related regulations.
  • Actively participate and fulfill expectations in the Credit Union Email Security Awareness Program as outlined in the Information Security Program Acknowledgement document.
